Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6550857
The tax and pricing policies used by developing countries to encourage road-transport fuel conservation, and thus reduce the amount of money spent on fuel imports, are reviewed in the report. The document presents the data on energy consumption in the transport sectors of 15 AID-funded countries, and the economic and structural factors influencing road-transport-fuel use. A final chapter examines the impact of automotive technology on fuel consumption in the 15 countries, the possible reasons for poor fuel economy in developing countries, and potential policy implications.
