Solubility of tellurium in lead telluride

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The problem addressed in this work is to develop a direct physicochemical method for determining the nonstoichiometry of PbTe and to study with its help the solubility of Te in PbTe in order to obtain reliable thermodynamic information on the relationship between the composition and conditions of synthesis of PbTe. The authors used lead telluride, synthesized from lead (ultrapure pure) and tellurium (ultrapure), as the starting material. Direct experimental data on the nonstoichiometry of PbTe in the temperature range 873-1168/sup 0/K and tellurium vapor pressures ranging from 0.1 to 1400 Pa were obtained.
