New triple stannides with structure of the YCo/sub 6/Ge/sub 6/ type

This paper presents the results of a determination of the crystal structure of LnFe/sub 6/Sn/sub 6/ (Ln = Y, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu). The specimens were synthesized in an arc furnace in an atmosphere of argon by fusing together charges of a rare earth metal, carbonyl iron, and tin. The structure was determined by the powder method for the compound HoFe/sub 6/Sn/sub 6/. X-ray data for that compound is presented.
