The acid properties of phosphomolybdic heteropolyacid of the 12th series, applied on SiO/sub 2/, TiO/sub 2/, and Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ carriers and its sodium and copper salts, applied on SiO/sub 2/, were investigated by the method of IR spectroscopy according to the adsorption of pyridine. The presence of Bronsted and Lewis acid centers was established in all the investigated catalysts. It was shown that the concentration and in a number of cases the strength of Bronsted acid centers can be varied by varying the degree of substitution of protons in the heteropolyacid by metal cations, the content of heteropolycompounds on the carrier, the degree of their dehydration, and the type of carrier used.
