As for forces of competition, industry restructuring, and revisionist regulation converge on the electric and natural gas industries, market risks and opportunities have increased significantly. The risks are not yet adequately understood, let alone quantified, and the opportunities not widely appreciated. The stakeholder who are currently focusing more on the risks and less on appreciating the opportunities, will be the losers in tomorrow's ''winners and losers'' world. On behalf of clients within the financial, natural gas, electric utility, and independent power industries who are interested in being on the winners' side of the balance sheet, RJRA has developed a vision of the future power industry. A major study, started a year ago, aims at helping new market entrants position themselves to capitalize on the opportunities that are developing. This paper describes this vision of the future power industry.
