A study of Mobil Corp.'s carbon monoxide combustion promoter which is now used in 25Vertical Bar3< of U.S. catalytic cracking plants. At Mobil's Torrance, Calif., FCC unit with the air intake controlled to allow either complete CO combustion in the catalyst bed (A) or partial combustion in the bed and the rest in the CO boiler for steam generation (B), showed that with a 20/sup 0/ API gas oil feed, gasoline yields were 47.2Vertical Bar3< for A, 47.9Vertical Bar3< for B, and 45.2Vertical Bar3< for conventional operation, and coke yields were 6.9Vertical Bar3< for B, 6.4Vertical Bar3< for A, and 7.1Vertical Bar3< for conventional operation. With a 25/sup 0/ API feed, gasoline, C/sub 4/, and C/sub 3/ yields were all higher for A than for B. Other studies have shown that the catalyst oxidation activity is almost completely dependent on promoter content, that little catalyst aging occurs, and that the presence of promoter does not adversely affect inherent catalyst selectivity.
