Ten additional pump packages are expected to more than double crude throughput on Ecopetrol's Central Llanos Pipe Line in Colombia when the project is completed in September. British Petroleum Exploration (BPX) is managing upgrade of the line which is owned and operated by Colombian state oil company, Ecopetrol. BPX anticipates volumes on the 174-mi line to increase from 100,000 bpd to 210,000 bpd. BPX is considering installing two additional pump packages that would raise volume to 300,000 bpd. This paper describes the design of the new pump packages, how they were installed and transported to the sites, and various central systems used with these pumps.
