Three Llanos plays hike Colombian potential

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:6070496
Light oil discoveries in Colombia's Llanos basin are giving the country new optimism. Colombia's Llanos basin lies between the Guyana shield and the Eastern Cordillera. The conditions of its formation produced three trapping environments from east to west; pinchouts against the Guyana shield, rollover anticlines and fault traps, and deepseated en echelon anticlines. So far, Elf Aquitaine has found four fields, Exxon's Colombian subsidiary has found one major field and Occidental has two heavier oil discoveries, and Ecopetrol found a play, which is under evaluation. Castilla, a major heavy oil discovery by Chevron, has been under development since the 1970s.
