Strontium-90 in North Atlantic surface water

Journal Article · · Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A.; (United States)

Nuclear fission explosions since 1945 have resulted in the world-wide dissemination of detectable amounts of /sup 90/Sr. Since the isotope has been delivered as fallout to surface layers only, its concentration can be used to study vertical mixing of ocean waters. Preliminary results of this study are presented, but no conclusions have been reached.
