Offshore alternative for LNG terminals

Journal Article · · Gas Ind., Nat. Gas Ed.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6982767
Offshore LNG receiving terminals that accept, store, and regasify LNG for sendout to shore as pipeline gas could provide important benefits over land-based facilities without incurring significant additional costs. Proposed designs range from artificial islands to subsea facilities, fixed and mobile jackup structures, and floating facilities. Even though such plants could cost $360 million (40% more than a comparable land-based facility), the price of the delivered gas to the distribution system would rise less than 1% because of the much higher costs for the other project components. Advantages attributed to offshore facilities include increased safety and environmental benefits.
