Cross section for the forward scattering of fast neutrons by /sup 238/U and /sup 239/Pu nuclei

The authors present the results of an attempt to normalize the cross sections for the forward scattering of neutrons to the Schwinger increase of the cross section for angles smaller than 3 - 4/sup 0/. Tables show calculated cross sections for the elastic scattering of neutrons 3/sup 0/ from /sup 238/U nuclei, and the differences between the cross sections for scattering by angles of 1.5/sup 0/ and 3/sup 0/ for various neutron energies. Corrections are introduced into the final data on the cross sections shown in a table for multiple and inelastic scattering, for fission neutrons, and for plutonium, and for scattering by the sample container.
