Constrained load flow calculation based on convex structure

Journal Article · · Electr. Eng. Jpn. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
A method is proposed for load flow calculations which makes possible the taking into account of upper and lower bounds of active power, reactive power and voltage magnitude. The load flow is determined by solving nonlinear convex equations. The simultaneous linear equations are solved iteratively by the Newton-Raphson method, and the linear programming problem is solved at each iteration. Load flow equations have multiple solutions, but most are excluded by constraint equations. Included are 4 examples based on the Ward-Hale model showing the method yields a feasible solution even when the conventional Newton-Raphson method fails.
