This paper presents anew method for finding a pair of multiple load flow solutions that are closely located to each other. Because load flow problems are expressed as sets of nonlinear simultaneous equations, they have no unique solution. A pair of solutions is related with voltage instabilities in power systems. The authors discovered that the convergent characteristic of load flow calculation by the Newton--Raphson method in rectangular coordinates has a unique linearity. They propose a new method for solving a pair of near solutions in bulk power systems.
