Demonstration of new submetering technologies. Final report
The project was designed to investigate submetering technologies and to assess their conservation impact, based on energy efficiency and economics. Four types of submetering systems were installed in separate multifamily residential housing complexes in New York City. Three of the systems are categorized as new submetering technologies and the fourth uses conventional electromechanical metering. The new types of systems are: (1) Electronic metering using carrier wave technology for communications; (2) Electronic metering using dedicated wiring for communication; and (3) Hybrid metering, combining an electromechanical-type communications system. The new systems were evaluated for performance and reliability and all of the systems were evaluated for economics.
