The effect of iron concentration and oxygen nonstoichiometry on the properties of YBa sub 2 (Cu sub 1 minus x Fe sub x ) sub 3 O sub 7 minus y

The effect of iron ({sup 57}Fe) concentration and oxygen content on the structure parameters and Moessbauer spectra of the YBa{sub 2}(Cu{sub 1{minus}x}Fe{sub x}){sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}y} compound (x=0.01--0.08) was studied by using the Moessbauer effect and x-ray diffraction analysis of polycrystals. It was determined that if {ital x} is constant, the quenching of samples from 350 to 950 {degree}C, which changes the oxygen content, fundamentally changes the relationship between the line intensities and some of the parameters of the partial doublets of Moessbauer spectra. A correlation between the change in these parameters and the lattice parameter radio c/b is established. At the same time, the variation of {ital x} under exactly the same annealing conditions has essentially no effect on the Moessbauer spectrum parameters, even though a structural phase transition from the orthorhombic to the tetragonal phase (in the interval 0.02{lt}x{lt}0.04) occurs in these samples as {ital x} is increased. A correlation between T{sub c} and the unit-Cell parameter c is established.
