This article discusses the star of deep drilling. Deep drilling is suffering right along with the rest of the industry. After peaking in 1982 (the year everything peaks), the number of deep wells (15,000 +) plummeted from 1,284 to just 300 in 1987. Additionally, deep wells as a percentage of total wells drilled also fell, from 1.5% in 1982 to a record-low 0.6% in 1988.
