Turning waste to energy with Mitsui's SB30 rated 6. 5 MW

The first US installation of Mitsui's SB30 industrial gas turbine is approaching completion at BKK Corp.'s Covina, California, landfill. And it likely will be the door-opener for a number of other low-Btu applications of the SB30 throughout the country. When Douglas Energy decided to bid on the construction of a waste-to-energy project at the landfill, it needed a gas turbine with a proven ability to handle low-Btu gas. The Mitsui SB30 fit the bill. The performance of the machine is discussed.
