The authors investigated the possibility of discharging lanthanum ions from aqueous solutions at room temperature via the cathodic incorporation mechanism. For preliminary information, they recorded cathodic polarization curves at aluminum at potentials less negative than those of cathodic deposition of metallic lanthanum on a lanthanum electrode. Then they used anodic chronopotentiometry to study the amounts of the cathodic incorporation product as a function of cathodic polarization conditions, and determined the shift in open-circuit potential of the electrode which occurred as a result of cathodic incorporation.
