Idaho National Engineering Laboratory hazardous and radioactive mixed waste identification and characterization report for CY 1987

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6963339
The purpose of this report is to review and update the listing of hazardous waste (HW) and radioactive mixed waste (RMW) generated at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL), both currently and in the future, that are managed at some point by EG and G Environmental Programs (EP). HW and RMW streams are identified and characterized for the past year (CY 1987) and projected for the next ten years. Wastes covered in this report include HW as defined by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, toxic wastes as defined by the Toxic Substances Control Act, e.g., polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) wastes, and other wastes that require special handling. For the purposes of this report, RMW is defined as low-level radioactive waste (i.e., radioactive waste not classified or managed as high-level waste, transuranic (TRU) waste, spent nuclear fuel, or by-product material) that also qualifies as HW per RCRA 40 CFR 261 regulations. The report is organized as follows: Section 2 provides a brief description of the INEL facilities and operating contractors; the lists of HW and RMW handled during CY 1987 are given in Section 3; Section 4 includes the updated waste generation projections for the next ten years for all INEL facilities. 6 refs., 1 fig., 7 tabs.
