A simple procedure is presented for determining the exact number of meter-proving runs needed to verify the accuracy of a positive-displacement meter. After specifying the tolerance and confidence levels required for a particular meter, testing personnel need only consult a table listing the confidence coefficients as a function of the number of runs and the coefficient of variation. A tolerance level of 0.0005 and a confidence coefficient of 95% provide enough accuracy for most meter provings.
