Conformal field theories for the Green-Schwarz superstring

The energy-momentum tensor of the covariantly quantized Green-Schwarz heterotic superstring in {ital D} dimensions is found to be equivalent to that of an {ital s{cflx o}}(2({ital D}{minus}2)){sub {ital k}=2}{direct sum}{cflx u}(1) theory. Both the naive {ital R} symmetry and the {kappa} ghost number symmetry are found to be anomalous. However, a certain linear combination of these two U(1) currents is free of anomalies.
