The lasing properties of the lanthanum beryllate crystal (La/sub 2/Be/sub 2/O/sub 5/:Nd/sup 3 +/) in the /sup 4/F/sub 3//sub ///sub 2/--/sup 4/I/sub 13//sub ///sub 2/ transition activated by neodymium ions are studied in the free lasing and Q-switched regimes. The lasing linewidth is measured. It is shown that in the free-lasing regime, the differential efficiency of lanthanum beryllate is higher than that of yttrium aluminum garnet.
