Position-sensitive xenon gamma-quantum detector

This paper investigates the possibility of using gas-filled position-sensitive charged-particle detectors to register gamma quanta. This paper considers a luminous method of registration that retains its performance to a xenon pressure of 3.5-4 MPa, e.e., at a gas density of ca 0.3 g/cm/sup 3/. The position-sensitive electroluminescence detector is of low-energy (30-300 keV) gamma quanta that is filled with xenon at a pressure of 1.0-4.5 MPa. A method of coordinate measurement can be used not only in gas detectors but also in liquid, solid-state, and two-phase emission detectors of elementary particles. Two coordinates can be measured simultaneously by adding a third wire electrode, which is also at small angle to the chamber bottom.
