Heat-recovery chillers and a variable-air-volume system transfer computer heat to other areas of the Chicago Standard Oil Building. The system reduced energy consumption 44%, and achieved a payback in less than two years. The three-phase program eliminated the need to use boilers for space heating. The article includes specifications and payback estimations for each phase of the retrofit programs.
