Ruggedized alpha radiation detector. [Durability]

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6943422

The objective of this project is to develop an alpha radiation scintillation detector with an entrance window more rugged than conventional types. A new technique for micromachining thin silicon windows has been implemented. Optically clear epoxy is used to couple the scintillator material to a glass light pipe and to give support to the thin portions of the silicon window. Tests indicate overall efficiency is comparable with conventional Mylar window detectors. 3 refs.
