Annual committee reports on significant legislative, judicial, and administrative developments in 1981: Electric Power Committee

Major legislation dealing with electric power during 1981 was aimed at increasing nuclear-power-plant safety and managing nuclear wastes, repealing prohibitions against using natural gas in the Powerplant and Industrial Dual Use Act, establishing a Superfund for hazardous wastes, and revising much of the support and incentives for solar energy. Legal actions challenged nuclear energy, the Clean Water Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, hydroelectric power, and the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act. New administrative developments were primarily concerned with nuclear energy and an effort to work more closely with the nuclear industry to make licensing procedures more efficient. Other administrative changes were designed to streamline regulation and shift the focus to focus on cost-effectiveness. (DCK)
