This patent describes apparatus for operating in a tube in a well containing fluid. It comprises two members adapted for relative movement; means responsive to the relative movement for engaging the tube; hydraulically operated actuator means for receiving pressurized fluid and causing the relative movement in response to a predetermined pressure of the fluid for actuating the engaging means; means for locking the engaging means in the tube-engaging position; means for permitting flow of the well fluid through the apparatus before the actuating and for preventing the flow after the locking; and means for equalizing the pressure of the well fluid across the members.
