Running tool for use with reeled tubing and method of operating same

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5172654
This paper describes a running tool for connection relative to reeled tubing for actuating a tubular locking device in a wellbore. It comprises: a mandrel assembly defining a bore and adapted for connection to an end section of the reeled tubing for introducing fluid into the bore; piston means extending over a portion of the mandrel assembly in engagement with the locking device; connecting means connecting the piston means relative to the mandrel assembly; cooperating shoulders formed on the mandrel assembly and the piston means for defining a fluid chamber; and passage means connecting the mandrel assembly bore to the fluid chamber for establishing fluid pressure in the fluid chamber to exert oppositely directed forces on the shoulders, respectively; the connecting means being constructed and arranged to respond to a predetermined fluid pressure in the fluid chamber to release the connection between the piston means and the mandrel assembly and permit axial movement of the piston means relative to the mandrel assembly to actuate the locking device.
