Stereochemistry of quinuclidines containing a substituent with aryl (heteroaryl) nuclei at position three

This paper establishes the configuration of some previously synthesized three-substituted quinuclidines with an asymmetric center in the substituent containing the aryl (heteroaryl) nuclei on the basis of H 1 NMR spectra, taken in the presence of the lanthanide shift reagent tris(dipivaloylmethanator europium (Eu (DPM)/sub 3/), and the C 13 NMR spectra. The features in the H 1 NMR spectra, taken in the presence of the Eu (DPM)/sub 3/, are shown to be correct for the base of the preparation of phencarol and its analogs.
