Five-year Soviet pipe push

Journal Article · · Eng. News-Rec.; (United States)

The Soviet Unions program to lay six 56-in.-dia pipelines from Western Siberia's Urengoi gas fields to European Russia, a total of 12,400 miles, is discussed. The USSR claims that its gas pipeline is progressing on schedule, however, Western observers are skeptical saying that the necessary pumping equipment is not in place. It is conceded that the Soviets have made some progress in overcoming construction bottlenecks and have gained construction experience in building the first four lines.
