Generic requirements for light water nuclear power plant fire protection

Book ·
OSTI ID:6925479
Criteria are established for fire prevention and protection of nuclear-safety-related structures, systems and components of light water reactor nuclear power plants. The purpose of the standard is to establish the basis for a fire prevention and protection program using the defense-in-depth concept. It provides guidance for determining the appropriate fire areas, fire barriers, fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and agents. Fire hazards are to be evaluated using estimated combustible loadings anticipated within a designate area which, under the worst conditions, would ignite and release heat without fire protection systems functioning. Specific areas covered are: basic program concepts for fire prevention and protection; fire protection program evaluation and analysis; design for fire prevention; design for fire protection and detection; administrative procedures, controls and fire brigades; quality assurance program; and testing and surveillance.
