This standard establishes criteria for fire prevention and protection of the nuclear-safety-related structures, systems, and components of light water reactor nuclear power plants. The purpose of this standard is to establish the basis for a fire prevention and protection program in light water reactor nuclear power plants using the defense-in-depth concept. The criteria given are statements of minimum acceptable performance. This document specifies detailed requirements where related standards do not provide the necessary details. Where details are available in other standards, these are referenced and when used in conjunction with this standard will provide a complete statement and categorization of the minimum requirements for fire prevention and protection.
