Southern California Edison is ahead of its schedule for developing alternative and renewable energy sources. The utility now obtains electric power from nine primary sources: oil, gas, wind, geothermal, coal, nuclear, biomass, solar, and water. The utility's goal is to encourage development of more than 2,190 megawatts (two-thirds of its new generation by 1993) from renewable and alternative sources. Summaries of these technologies cover wind parks, solar stations, waste-to-energy production, cogeneration facilities, hydroelectric projects, geothermal units, fuel cells, and synthetic fuels. 1 figure.
