Blood oxygen-tension changes in acid-exposed brook trout

Book ·
OSTI ID:6914182

Oxygen-tension content of whole venous blood taken directly from the heart ventricle of brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) subjected to acidified water (pH 3 to 4) for 4 days was measured to determine presence or extent of hypoxia. Blood oxygen tension was found to be significantly reduced in the acid-exposed fish. Additional tests indicated that compensatory erythrocytic changes are associated with decreased blood oxygen tension.
