Two-photon contribution to polarization in [ital K][sup +][r arrow][pi][sup +][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]]

Short-distance physics involving virtual top and charm quarks contributes to [mu][sup +] (and [mu][sup [minus]]) polarization in the decay [ital K][sup +][r arrow][pi][sup +][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]]. Measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry ([Gamma][sub [ital R]][minus][Gamma][sub [ital L]])/([Gamma][sub [ital R]]+[Gamma][sub [ital L]]), where [Gamma][sub [ital R]] and [Gamma][sub [ital L]] are the rates to produce right- and left-handed [mu][sup +], may provide valuable information on the unitarity triangle. The parity-violating asymmetry also gets a contribution from Feynman diagrams with two-photon intermediate states. We estimate this two-photon contribution to the asymmetry and discuss briefly the two-photon contribution to time-reversal-odd asymmetries that involve both the [mu][sup +] and [mu][sup [minus]]polarizations.
