PCMSOL: Simulation code for a passive solar structure incorporating phase change materials

In order to study the optimum properties, utilization and economics of phase change materials (PCM) in a direct gain passive solar structure a computer simulation, PCMSOL, has been developed. This program, modeling a one room home, permits the incorporation of PCM's and/or other high thermal mass materials in the walls. The theory and basic relations used in the code are given. Some sample runs are discussed. The program is validated by comparison with data from an experimental passive solar structure in Huntsville, Alabama.
