Pipelay operations will begin soon in the Gulf of Mexico for construction of the High Island Offshore System--a joint venture between Michigan Wisconsin Pipe Line Co. (operator), Transco Cos., and affiliates of United Gas Pipe Line Co., Texas Gas Transmission Corp., and Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America. The 203-mile offshore Texas and Louisiana natural gas gathering system will include the first 42-inch pipe for a domestic submarine line. Brown and Root Marine Operators will install the line using the new super laybarge, BAR 347, in water depths ranging from 46 to 152 ft. The pipeline will cost more than $353 million.
