The breakeven investment cost for gasification equipment is positive under existing technology and prices with either corncobs or stover as a corn-drying fuel source, indicating that gas produced from cobs or stover can complete with LP-gas as long as the investment required does not exceed the breakeven values. The investment ceiling for drying corn from 25.5% moisture to 15.5% is 39 cents/bu (US No. 2 bushel) of corn ($11.03/m/sup 3/) for the corncob feedstock and 23 cents/bu ($6.67/m/sup 3/) for the stover with LP-gas priced at 50 cents/gal (13.2 cent/liter). The corn grain itself is not an economically competitive source of drying fuel.
