Evidence for Self-Focusing or Filamentation from X-ray, 3/2 ω0, and 2 ω0 Emission

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6898595· OSTI ID:6898595
With long pulse, moderate intensity (≃ 1013 W/cm2) Nd-laser irradiation of flat targets, time-integrated images of 3/2 ω0 and 2 ω0 emission reveal filaments along the laser axis. Combined with fine-scale structure found in time-integrated images of x-ray emission, these filaments suggest self-focusing of hot spots in the incident beam.
