This patent describes a process for the conversion of ethane to liquid aromatic hydrocarbons comprising contacting, at a temperature of from about 500/sup 0/C. to about 700/sup 0/C., an ethane rich feedstock with a catalyst consisting essentially of a gallium modified acid form ZSM-5 or ZSM-11 molecular sieve, promoted with rhenium and a metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, palladium, platinum, rhodium and iridium.
