Theory of EBT electron-rings
Technical Report

OSTI ID:6891701
A theoretical model of the energetic electron rings in the Elmo Bumpy Torus plasma device is developed. The heating rate is controlled by pitch angle scattering. The model predicts: the ring location and geometry, the electron heating rate, the ring electron spectrum, and the microwave power needed to sustain the rings. The model is applied to the Oak Ridge EBT experiment and its predictions are in substantial agreement with the experimental observations, buttressing confidence in its future applications to advanced EBT designs.
