A utility sized fluidized bed modular plant

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6888110
By eliminating postcombustion flue gas desulfurization equipment and reducing construction schedule and capital costs, significant cost savings can be realized by utilities. This paper discusses a new approach to reduce overall capital and operating costs of new coal fired steam-electric generating plants. Atmospheric fluidized bed combustion (AFBC), coupled with modular construction concepts, has the potential to effectively reduce both capital cost and environmental emissions. This paper presents the results of a study performed by Stearns Catalytic, comparing modular construction concepts for a conventional pulverized coal unit versus a modular circulating fluid bed unit.
