Some recent cogeneration projects have failed to provide satisfactory financial performance because they ran afoul of one or more of the three Cogeneration Pitfalls, which are: inadequate facilities, caused by insufficient capital fund; higher-than-anticipated operating costs; and insufficient production capability. Each of the cogeneration pitfalls can be viewed as a triumph of enthusiasm over logic. To increase the potential for logic to carry the day, one should employ facts rather than expectations. A program to aid in that endeavor is outlined.
