An alternative fuel cost model developed in Canada is described which incorporates an alternative fuel cost analysis into a system which considers the cost of transport, storage, and distribution of fuel; fuel taxes; tax concessions on vehicles; grants for conversion; and the variable and fixed costs of owning and operating the vehicle over the expected lifetime. A table compares the cost per passenger or per ton-mile for seven vehicles: commuter auto, heavy use auto, taxi, urban bus, inter-urban bus, urban truck, and inter-urban truck. The fuels considered are: gasoline, compressed natural gas, propane, diesel, liquefied natural gas, methanol blend, ethanol blend, and methanol. 1 table.
