Focussing and confinement

The confinement of resonant states astride the ridge of potential barriers, evidenced by observations of collisions and spectra, stems from the propagation of WKB wavefunctions singled out by their asymptotic behavior. The same effect occurs in diverse phenomena including the self-focussing of laser beams.
