A $71,000 model 7300 Energy Control Systems (ECS), which controls the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system, paid for itself after 11 months at an Amoco Containers Corp. plant in La Mirada, CA. The ECS flexibility that allows users to program their own parameters makes it possible to meet the plant's unique temperature requirements. A desktop computer controls and monitors equipment and prints out daily energy-use-and-demand data. (DCK)
