New CW, tunable laser in the 1. 05--1. 08. mu. region

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6864821
The CW laser properties at room temperature of lanthamide hexa-aluminate doped with Nd (LNA) were investigated and the tuning characteristics in the 1.05--1.08 ..mu.. region obtained. When a 1 cm long 'c' axis crystal is pumped by an Ar laser (514nm) or a Kr laser (752nm), CW emission is obtained with slope efficiencies of 10% and 25% respectively. A Lyot filter within the laser cavity forces the LNA crystal to oscillate in either of two major bands centered at 1082nm and 1054nm. A thin etalon permits tuning over 12nm.
