Tuning characteristics and new laser lines in an Nd:YAP CW laser

We have investigated the CW laser properties of Nd doped Yttrium-Aluminum-Perovskite (YAP) in a Kr arc-lamp, pumped cavity. Seven laser transitions within the /sup 4/F/sub 3//sub ///sub 2/-/sup 4/I/sub 11//sub ///sub 2/ multiplet have been observed with thresholds and power outputs comparable to the corresponding transitions in Nd:YAG. A simple Lyot filter in the cavity is used to select the transition. The addition of a thin, uncoated etalon enabled us to obtain the tuning characteristics of the transitions at 1079.5nm and 1084.5nm. Tuning widths of 3nm are obtained.
