The charge-transfer rate coefficients for the reaction O[sup 2+](2[ital p][sup 2] [sup 3][ital P])+He, H[sub 2], N[sub 2], and Co [r arrow] products are measured at energies about 2.5 eV using a laser-induced-plasma ion source and ion storage. The rate coefficients are 1.12(0.15)[times]10[sup [minus]12] cm[sup 3] s[sup [minus]1], 2.35(0.22)[times]10[sup [minus]9] cm[sup 3] s[sup [minus]1], 3.15(0.26)[times]10[sup [minus]9] cm[sup 3] s[sup [minus]1], and 3.40(0.29)[times]10[sup [minus]9] cm[sup 3] s[sup [minus]1], respectively. While our result for O[sup 2+] and H[sub 2] is consistent with the published value, the charge-transfer rate coefficient for O[sup 2+] and He disagrees with all the available theoretical and experimental values by as much as three orders of magnitude. No theoretical value is available for O[sup 2+]+N[sub 2]. However, our measured value at 2[times]10[sup 4] K is different from that obtained by the drift tube method at 300 K by a factor of 2. No theoretical and experimental values are available for comparison for the charge-transfer reaction of O[sup 2+] and CO.
