Title: Effect of the petrographic composition of coal charges on the reaction capacity of the coke

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6837489

The reactivity of coke depends not only on the basic petrographic parameters of the coal charge - the average value of vitrinite reflectance and the index of reflectivity but also on the rank of the coals in the charge and their petrographic composition. Some 70 coals were investigated with a reflectance range of 0.81 - 1.27%, a lean component index of 0.78 - 1.54, coefficient of rank between 0.010 and 0.356% and caking content range of 0.01 - 31.0%. The wider the spread of rank and petrographic composition in a charge, the greater the disparity in the time at which the plastic state is reached; this leads to a diversely structured reactive coke.
